Girls Day Out

http://66.39.108.203/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/rtvw2/community/dcboard.cgi

Saturday was girls day out, you know you've hit middle age when girls night out changes to girls day out *grin, anyway - my mother, sister, friend and I went shopping and eating on Saturday. We went on the pretense of shopping for Bre, which we did, but I think the majority just needed girls time. I know I did.

My sister came up Friday night, I think having a married boyfriend has put a damper on her weekends and I'm becoming her relief from boredom,.....ok, I'm going to digress here for a moment....why is it with some people I'm more forgiving than others? I tell her to her face that I don't agree with what's she's doing and try to put it into perspective for her (that's like hitting concrete) but I also laugh at some of her stories and am a bit jealous he's taking her on an African safari in January. *sigh ..... anyway we were picked up by mom-who needs a hip replacement and friend - who recently had a knee replacement (she's only 50), Kel and I joked we were the nurse aids. Went to the nearest mall - 30 miles away and got them electric carts. I was jealous, I want an electric cart to go mall shopping! I thought my mother was going to have a few lawsuits on her hands before the day was over - she's not so good on the electric cart backing thing!

We bought a bunch of cool things to send to Bre, partially thanks to Puffy and our night googling things like camel spiders and mantyhose and stuff, (oh and Puffy - Bre got her Puffy package, she's either emailing you or has already done so- *smooch) and then ate, my tearoom suggestion got shot down, so we wound up at IHOP where it took an hour and a half just to get our food. Hey, it wasn't my idea. Went to a movie and then headed home. Kelley and I played Wii all night and Wii Fit and drank margaritas. I'm overweight and she's tiny and I still kicked her ass. Ha! I told Mike and Bre when they get home I'm going to kick their Wii asses too :)

I spent Sunday over at mom's raking and burning leaves - Geez I was sore yesterday! This past weekend was suppose to be my holiday cleaning weekend, but as you can see I blew that off. So last night I started moving furniture and cleaning and putting away the things I put away to make room for Christmas decorations. I'm thinking about decorating before Thanksgiving this year. Is that weird?

I've had two girl weekends in a row.

Last weekend I went with a friend to a baby expo. She's due in December so she got a lot more attention than I did. Then Sunday was her baby shower.

This most recent weekend I went to a jewelry party on Saturday, which was pretty girly, too.

Are your Fiesta bowls Fiestaware?

I have a few pieces of Fiestaware that I bought back when I bought my Condo in 1997. I have four plates and four bowls (two each of blue and yellow.)

I got Crate and Barrel everyday dinnerware when I got married (in 2000.) I still use the Fiestaware especially because I like the bowls better than the dinnerware.

The Crate & Barrel dinnerware is mercilessly chipped and looking awful. The Fiestaware, used often, is still pristine. I'm thinking that when I replace the dinnerware that I might go all Fiestaware. I'm thinking about black.

Yep, Fiestaware. I got rid of all my Coke dishes - the logo not the drug - in 2004 so I needed all new dishes when I started nesting again. I decided to do the fiesta in all the different colors. I've had family and friends give me their old retired stuff lately also. As it's all different colors it works well.

I want the canisters next.

They do wear well.

Okay, sorry to insert this here Tummy, but I couldn't get it to load over there...

Gingersnaps

¾ C Shortening
1 C sugar
¼ C molasses
1 egg
2 C Flour
2 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together the sugar and shortening. Add in molasses and blend.
Add in egg and blend. Separately sift the flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger.
Incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Shape into small balls, roll in a coarse
Sugar (such as Wilton’s Sprinkles – white sparkling sugar) and bake for around 8 minutes.

After baking, drizzle cookies with melted white chocolate, or dip half the cookie in white chocolate.

We had lots of fun with these cookies for the holidays last year.. hope you like them!

Decorating beofre Thanksgiving? Weird? yes.

But your girl's day out sounds like fun.

Raking leaves? Not so much.

Tummy if I do replace my dinnerware I'd be happy to send you my two blue bowls and plates and two yellow bowls and plates. I like the idea of mix and match but my OCD won't let me do it.

I like the black and the cinnabar, not sure which one I'll choose.

Tummy said...

Hey you or anyone else can post recipes here whenever you want!

Fro: for heck - yes I would take your plates and bowls :) The blue and yellow are actually my favorite, oh and the purple and green and......

I think the black and the cinnabar would look very elegant together and be a healing step with your OCD. Ha!

*sticks tongue out at MC My neighbors down the street have already put up their lights and turned them on. I guess they think if it's good enough for Walmart it's good enough for them :)

You make a good point about this girls day out/night out thing. *sobs*

Hey, will you email me Bre's address for packages and any ideas for things she would enjoy? I'd love to send her a little cheer.

kim (weltek) said...

oh, and my email address is weltek at yahoo dot com.

Tummy said...

Kim - done.

Mom2 - I think I may have to make these for Breezy's cookie exchange, unless you're doing it and making these. I think these and some Ooey Butter cookies :) And then I'll have to make another batch to send *grin

Hey, do you think Bre would like some Stove Top singles? Instant stuffing?

I ordered a case, sight unseen, and bought one today to see if I liked it.

Too salty for my taste.

Maybe this might be good for her - just add water, microwave for like a minute, and bam! there's some stuffing!

I'd also be happy to mail her some books and magazines.

Let me know, Tummy.

Slicey-
I'm sure if she doesn't SOMEONE over there would. And any books, as entertainment is in short supply on her base.

They have a room they take things to to share. I try to put extra stuff in each box so she can help keep it replenished. They are moving her soon so she has asked that all packages be held until she has her new address as things that have to be forwarded have been known to go into the black hole.

I wonder why the singles are too salty, you'd think they'd have the correct portions.

*smooch

Girls weekends are fun. Even if they are just girl's day. *smooch*
and yes, you are strange for decorating for Christmas already.

I came here to tell you that I received a very nice email from Bre. I emailed back to her. I'll need her new address if and when she gets one. It took only ONE WEEK to reach her!!

A married boyfriend is taking your sister to Africa? What's the excuse that he's using on his wife?

I love girl weekends. Or girl days or nights. I think it's one of the reasons I love Bunco.

I don't think you are weird for cleaning now. Thanksgiving is late this year, so you need to do it earlier to make up for that.

Oh, and dishes.

I regret the ones I registered for when we got married. But there was no Pottery Barn then, and there was no Crate & Barrel then. And I didn't like Target's selection.

I have some very girly dishes, and I can't wait to replace them, but I'm waiting until the 10 year mark.

Puff - the married boyfriend is going over for a month to climb Kilamanjaro and then is flying her over for a 7 day safari and a weekend in Amsterdam and then flying her home, while he continues his trip.

The wife just got back from a 3 week tour of Normandy. I guess this is something they do every year. *shrug I dunno. It's all weird to me.

Tummy said...

Oops -

I know what you mean Boo - I thought I looooved my Coke plates but they were sooo not me after a bit.

I love my multicolored Fiestaware :) My kitchen is very happy.

frodis said...

Boo, I'm trying to wait until the 10 year mark to replace my dishes, too. 2 years to go.

I like my everyday dishes from Crate & Barrel but they're really beat up. Most of the plates have a chip and all of the bowls do too. I'm down to 5 salad plates from 8 (which really, really annoys me.) The glaze on a couple of the plates is crackled and makes me unhappy.

I'm not going to buy multi-piece place settings this time, just the pieces I use. That means no coffee cups, no saucers.

I don't think I'm going to make it to 10 years.

frodis said...

Tummy, I wonder if the wife has her own thing going on on the side.

frodis said...

I'm camping out here today.

Tummy said...

Fro - sis (I will call her Leigh) thinks so, but I think that is only to assauge her own guilty feelings.

Personally I don't know where the man gets his energy. He's taking the wife skiing next weekend, then one of his sons, then the other, then Leigh. He just did the same thing on Vegas trips.

I have to make myself use my mugs. I don't have saucers thank goodness.

I also have glass mugs that I love. I love plain old glassware.

And I have four Crate & Barrel Christmas mugs that my boss gave me. I like to use those in the winter.

People have been in myinfochat.com, the sports forum.

It's surprisingly dead right now. Just Jbug, Hobbs, and Starshine.

I have so many mugs that I have a separate piece of furniture for them. Too many mugs. So many of them are commemorative or logo mugs or gifts and stuff like that. I've already culled the mug herd but I should probably do it again.

I have some plain glass mugs, too. I love them very much.

Mr Fro got me two plain white big coffee mugs last Christmas. I love those, too.

Tummy said...

I have my mugs hanging on cup hooks. It's a rainbow of mugs, yes I have them in rainbow order :)

I have 2 mugs I use, ones a happy face mug and another is a zoo mug that is tall and heavy and has penguins marching around the rim. I love both of those mugs.

We need new glasses, matching glasses. I can't rip Carlos' hands off the stupid glasses that come with whiskey and scotch gift sets. I keep telling him it's time to grow up and get big kid glasses.

The plastic ones we have are fine for outdoors in the summer but they also do not cut it for company during the winter.

Ergh.

I'm hanging out here too, today. Getting far too much work done with the board being dead.

Since this seems to be the new hang-out, I thought I'd let everyone know that RTVW is back with temporary forums.

Tummy said...

I dreamt about RTVW lastnight, that it was back but didn't seem right. All the names we right, but I could tell it wasn't really you all. It was creepy.

And now the last 6 months of my life have gone poof.

Lol - girls day out is a definate sign of middle age. It makes so much more sense, really.

Sister's bf must have lots of time and $$$ to do all those fun trips.

I like the electric cart idea for the shopping mall too! She got it for the whole day? Do you have to pay for it? I want a golf cart to bop around on our private roads in the summer. A couple of my neighbors have them and they just look like so much fun!

Around here people start putting stuff up and/or out around the 15th of Nov. I'm getting head start this year because I have one string of rope lights (that outlines my driveway gate) that I never took down last year!

Swami said...

Oh yeah - I recently switched my china from the stuff we have been using for the past 7-8 years for a set of Blue Willow that I had in storage for the past 25 years. We wanted smaller plates.

The only thing the Blue Willow was missing was mugs. I like mugs! So I found some Roscher blue & white mugs at Home Goods that look just right with my set. I like mix & match at other peoples houses, but not mine.

Tummy said...

I'm laughing at never taking the lights down Swami. Rob likes putting lights up but hates bringing them down. I turn into a nag at that time of year.

The electric carts were free for the first 4 hours and then 2.00 an hour after that. It was worth it :)

I think I'm going to do wall decorations before Thanksgiving but not the floor stuff. I'm having alot of people and my house is little, so I'm going to keep the floor area as uncluttered as possible.
